With the support of alumni and friends, the Florida Alumni Scholarship is awarded annually to a William Paterson University student who has resided in Florida. This academic year, it was awarded to Brandon Jordan who graduated in December, 2021 with a B.S. in Computer Information Technology.
Brandon is a non-traditional student and has worked, often full-time, throughout his college career. He started his education at a state university in Florida and moved to New Jersey in 2013. Despite a deep commitment to furthering his education, Brandon often needed to take a pause in his studies in order to earn enough to meet his family financial responsibilities and cover the cost of attending college. One of his former professors who knows him well shared: "Brandon contributed much to the class and to the learning of his fellow students...He is a serious, interested, prepared, and intelligent student. He raised the level of the class discussion." The professor concludes her remarks by stating that Brandon is one of "the most memorable students in my fifty years of teaching."
In a message to his scholarship donors, Brandon writes : "After ten years of hard work, I am very excited to finish it [degree]...Because of this scholarship, I will finally be able to take the last of my classes. Thank you again; I will be waving to the crowd at graduation next year !
